Bulletproof T-Shirts?

First we reported Bulletproof Polo’s, and now an a Fruit of the Loom that can stop a bullet?   The University of Carolina has reportedly created a breakthrough that would allow an ordinary T-Shirt to become “wearable armor” by splicing the carbon in the cotton with boron, the third hardest material on the planet.

Me personally?

I think I’m going to wait until all the beta testing is done.

Anatomy of an Engagment

Here are some of the photos during the recent ICON Celebrity & VIP Protection Training Course.  In this actual Force on Force exercise, attendees escort their VIP from a building to a nearby vehicle, however armed assailants conduct an ambush.  The students are evaluated on their reactions and decisions made.  The level of realism is intensified by the use of Airsoft weapons that deliver a realistic  (and at times painful) simulation of taking fire and having to return fire against a live person. Fig 1.  After identifying an imminent threat, the front security escort moves forward and prepares to engage.

Fig 2.  the primary bodyguard, assisted by the 2nd security escort covers and evacuates the VIP to the nearby vehicle –finding it disabled.

Fig 3.  The primary bodyguard elects to move the VIP to the far side of the vehicle, using it for cover.  At this point, the 2nd security escort has drawn his firearm and engaged the attackers from the rear of the vehicle.

Fashion Trend: Bulletproof Polos?

While you won’t find them at Macy’s or Saks, Colombian designer Miguel Caballero has created a polo shirt resistant to rounds from an Uzi machine gun.  Mr. Caballero claims to have outfitted dignitaries such as President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, and President Alvaro Uribe of Colombia.  I could see the demand from both of these guys.

The  shirt comes in multiple levels of protection:

Level 1 IIA: 9mm / 40 Smith and Wesson FMJ
Level 2 II: 9mm / .357 Magnum / 38 Super / Mini Uzi submachine gun
Level 3 IIIA: Uzi machine gun / MP5,MP9 submachine gun / 44 Magnum SJHP / Stab-proof

And of course the price $, 4000 USD.

World’s Smallest Earphone

Hardgeek profiles the “worlds smallest earphone” dubbed the “Secret Service Invisible 2-Way Micro Headset”.   Looks interesting, but does it work effectively?  Anyone with an answer to that drop me a line.
